Thanks!!!

Thanks to everyone that sent puppets. We had a wonderful turnout. The total count was 51 puppets, unbelievable! Thank you for making Christmas that much sweeter for the kids at Maeap. I know they are going to love all the wonderful creations.

If you were not able to contribute this time around, do not worry. We are going to have another project in the first part of next year. Stay tuned to find out more about the new children's home and the new project. If you have any suggestion for a home or project please send them our way.

Thanks again,

Rockridge Daisy Scouts

My niece's wonderfully talented Daisy Scout troop made a bunch of puppets for the kids at Maeap.

The puppets are amazing. There are some frogs, some cows, some dogs, a cat, a tiger, and even some cute little girls. I know the kids are going to love playing with these. Thanks to you all the girls in the Rockridge Daisy Scouts Troop and the leaders too, of course!

Heifer International

This year instead of Christmas gifts for the "grown-ups" in our family we are going to make a donation to a charity. We are each going to find a charity we want to donate to and then decide as a group which charity we like best. My pick is Heifer International. The idea behind HI is simple. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. HI gives struggling communities live stock. They send animals all over the world as well as domestically. They have all sorts of different animals, cows, chickens, goats, pigs, etc. You donate money and they send an animal where it is most needed. I am really looking forward to seeing what other charities everyone else comes up with. I will keep you posted on our choice.

Project 1

The project for the kids at Maeap is PUPPETS! You can make any type of puppet you like. There are finger puppets, sock puppets, mitten puppets, glove puppets, and whatever else you can dream up. The deadline for the project is Dec. 17th. I want the puppets to get to Maeap before Christmas. See the sidebar for shipping instructions. I am really excited about this project because it allows the kids to be creative and interactive once they receive our gift. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks for your help!!

Maeap Children's Home

We have a Children's Home for our first project. The home is located in northern Thailand in the small town of Chiangrai. It was founded to help prevent child prostitution by taking in children at risk. Their mission is to " heal, restore, train and disciple each child, enabling them to fulfill God’s plan for their lives." The home currently has 21 children ranging in age from 4-15. I can not imagine more deserving kids. I will be letting you all know about the first project in the upcoming days.

The Search Begins!

I have started my search for a children's home. I decided it would be easiest to find a home if I narrowed my search to a region. Right away I thought of Thailand. Thailand has a large problem with AIDS leading many children to become orphaned.
I have found a few good prospects that I am communicating with at the moment. As soon as I hear from them, I will let you all know what our first project will be. I am so excited I can barely contain myself.
